PASCAL JOHNSON PASCAL JOHNSON choreographer and creative producer

Shot on 16mm, this film follows Riho Sakamoto, Principal Dancer at Dutch National Ballet, as she reflects on the distance between the country she left behind and the one she now calls home. Through an intimate portrait of the artist, choreographer and filmmaker Pascal Johnson explores the intersections of cultural identity, belonging and artistic expression, tracing the ways in which place shapes both the dancer and her relationship to her art form. “Now that I’ve seen my country through my friends’ eyes,” she says, “I’ve relearned what a beautiful place it is.”

The film is lensed by Pascal Johnson, a choreographer and filmmaker based in New York City. After a decade performing with Dutch National Ballet and Scottish Ballet, he now creates original dance works that explore movement, identity and the human experience.
